Growing the Girls Game at LEAD

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

With the growth of women’s hockey over the past decade, LEAD Hockey has been able to see an increased number of female hockey players at first hand. Last summer, LEAD Hockey held its first ever “All Girls Camp”, and this summer, LEAD Hockey plans to add even more opportunities for girls to grow as hockey players and people. Check out the list of opportunities for girls this summer listed below!

Summer CEP

If your daughter is in the Bantam, Pewee, or Squirt age group, The Commitment to Excellence Program might be a good fit for her. Although this camp has been mostly dominated with male campers in the past, we have seen an excellent growth of the number of female participants over the years. Not to mention, we have also had a great line up of female coaches in the past, including: Cara Lemirande (UWSP Hockey), Melissa Channel, Brianna Decker, Claudia Kepler, and Baylee Wellhausen (Badger Hockey Alumni). If your daughter is of age, and is looking for a consistent ice times and excellent skill instruction, CEP might be a great fit for her. The camp also includes off-ice, camp lectures, goal setting instructions, and on-ice tournament 3v3 games! You can sign her up here!

LEAD Girls

This is our newest addition to LEAD Hockey and we are super excited about it! LEAD Girls is a skills and skating development program that will be taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:40pm. This is an ice time scheduled for girls only, where they will be given skill and skating instructions to work on based on their skill level and hockey experience. This is an excellent way for any female hockey player to keep up with and improve her hockey skills over the summer! If you are interested, you can find out more about information and registration here!

LEAD Mites

LEAD Mites is also a new addition to Lead Hockey! For 9 weeks out of the summer, every Monday and Wednesday, we will be hosting our youngest LEAD Hockey group at Verona Ice Arena! If your daughter is of this age, and is looking to start hockey or continue to play hockey, this might be a great fit for her! Click here for more information.

LEAD High School/U19 Girls

Every Tuesday at 8:00am, high school aged girls can come to Verona Ice Arena and work on skill and skating development! Our skill and skating instructions will make our athletes go outside their comfort zone, by pushing them to work on the little technical details of skating, stick handling, and shooting. These ice sessions are great for any female player looking to take her skills to the next level. To sign up, click here!

LEAD All Girls Clinic

Our second annual “LEAD All Girls Clinic” will be taking place: June 18th, 19th, and 20th. This three-day camp is all about having fun and growing the game of women’s hockey. The camp will be hosted by all female coaches who will be striving to answer any questions that our young female hockey players have about playing in a male dominated sport. They will also show the campers what it takes to make it to the next level by including: off-ice sessions, goal setting and teamwork lectures, and Q&A sessions! Sign up here!

LEAD Power Skating Clinic

This is a great clinic for any female hockey player looking to work on her skating. Edge work, power, and balance will be the main focus. The camp will be held August 13th, 14th, and 15th. Sign up here!

We are excited about growing the girls game and are even more stoked for whats to come this summer! Hope to see you there!
